About 200 Nigerian citizens set to return home are stranded in Canada as their evacuation flight is postponed.

The Nigeria High Commission in Ottawa disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

The commission explained that “logistics issues” beyond its control are to blame for the postponement of the flight.

It disclosed that a new date would be announced for the evacuation of Nigerians in Canada as soon as the airline secures the clearance from the Canadian authorities.

The statement read in part: “The inability of Air Peace, the chosen carrier to secure “overflight and landing permits” from the Canadian authorities on time is the reason for delay.

“These challenges are as a result of the fact that Air Peace is flying this route for the first time.

“The high commission opted for Air Peace because the fare was more affordable compared to others that were contacted.

“Also only Air Peace had agreed to convey the evacuees from more than one location in Canada.”

The plane, a Boeing 777 aircraft, was scheduled to convey Nigerians from two locations in Canada, namely Toronto and Alberta.
