Super Eagles’ road to the third-place playoff ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations against Tunisia on Wednesday at the Cairo based Al Salam Stadium.The three-time champions started their Group B campaign by beating Burundi 1-0 in the Alexandria courtsey Odion Ighalo goal in the 77 minutes before getting three-point against Guinea through Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo.
Super Eagles succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to debutant Madagascar in the final group game to finish in second place with six points, one shy of leaders BareaHowever, Nigeria dumped defending champions Cameroon after coming from behind to win 3-2 in the Round of 16, also at Alexandria Stadium courtesy of Ighalo brace and Alex Iwobi for the Super Eagles but in the quarterfinals, they defeated South Africa at Cairo International Stadium 2-1, with Samuel Chukwueze and William Troost-Ekong.But their way was stopped at the semifinal with a 2-1 defeat to Algeria, with Ighalo scoring Nigeria’s only goal from the spot after 72 minutes.
