A woman has been arrested by the police after she stabbed an alfa to death in Lagos state.
A 25-year old single mother, Gift Daniel, has explained why she stabbed an Islamic cleric, Alfa Taofeek Olumoro, 52, who allegedly attempted to lure her into a romp in Lagos. The suspect, Gift, narrated that she stabbed the victim, Olumoro, several times on his chest so as to free herself from him after he tricked her to his room to engage her in a romp. The incident happened at No. 3 Bajulaye Street, Fadeyi area of Lagos where she went to visit her lover, simply identified as Onyebuchi, who lives in the same compound with the victim. The embittered single mother who lives at Alhaji Aleke Street in Bariga, Lagos, said that she went to visit her lover and then met Alfa Olumoro who claimed that he cures people of different ailments. She was introduced to some of the products he claimed to be efficacious and she asked him to give her massage balm for her child. Alfa Olumoro reportedly then asked her to come into his room to collect it.
When she entered his room, he locked the door and attempted to forcefully sleep with her. She said that she resisted, used the kitchen knife she saw there to stab him, freed herself and escaped. The victim was said to have bled profusely and was rushed to the hospital where he eventually died. Following the death, the single mother was arrested and later transferred to SCIID, Panti, Yaba. During interrogation, she revealed what happened between them to the police.
However, the police found her culpable and charged her for murder before the Ebute Metta Magistrate Court. Her plea was not taken after the prosecutor, Inspector Adebayo Oyedele, told the Court that it was a case of murder and needed the DPP’s advice. Thus, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. O.O. Olatunji, ordered her remanded in prison custody without an option of bail. The court also directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and sent to the DPP for advice. The matter was adjourned till 25th May, 2019 for the DPP’s report to be ready. P.M Express gathered that Gift’s case may be moved to High Court if the DPP finds her culpable and recommends her trial for murder. She may be sentenced to life imprisonment or death if she is found guilty by the Court for the alleged offence.
