38-year-old Maryam Umar aka Kofar Mata, a Kano based socialite, was arrested on February 11th and arraigned next day in Court 29 at Sabon Gari, Kano on February 12th.

The socialite alleged to be a serial fraudster, was charged to court for impersonation, possession of police uniform, Criminal conspiracy, harboring of miscreants and other related offences.

A Police source who spoke to newsmen, disclosed they’ve been trailing Maryam Umar who was remanded in police custody for sometime now, until she was eventually arrested with a Police uniform in her possession.

Speaking on the arrest of the suspect, Mallam Bala Nasidi who resides in same community with Maryam, thanked the Police for the arrest and further called for a proper investigation over the incident.

“Her cup is full. She wears very deceptive looks as she preys on her victims. She called herself Kofar Mata. She is often sited at big time parties in Kano” he said.

The case was however adjourned for further hearing to February 28th.

Maryam Umar’s arrest is coming after Operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and police arrested one, Engineer Gude Ude in Kano state with FRSC’s uniform and a military ID card.

A statement from the FRSC Kano state command, signed by the Acting Sector Commander, Ahmed T. Mohammed, said Ude was arrested on Thursday, January 4, 2018 along Kaduna-Kano highway during a special patrol tagged “Operation Zero”.

Daily Trust reported that “Ude was driving a vehicle (Sharon) with registration number MKA 269 HU. When he was stopped, he claimed to be a staff of the FRSC and was found with FRSC uniform in his position.

“However, having suspected to be impersonating the FRSC, the man was arraigned before a Special Mobile Court attached to the Special Patrol Operations where he then produced a military ID card and claimed to be a soldier.”
