When you think about it, it is not that easy to find a nice cheap university in Nigeria. However, we have managed to find not one but three cheapest universities which tuition fees will not completely empty your pockets and wallets. Check out this post, where as we tell you about the cheapest universities in Nigeria and what they offer.

The reason why we have decided to talk about three universities instead of focusing on just one cheapest university in Nigeria is that all of these universities have similarly low fees. Besides, they are all located in different parts of the country, so you can see which one is closer to you and learn more about it. Without further ado, let’s get to it!

Ahmadu Bello University

  • Where to find it: Sokoto Rd., Samaru-Zaria, Zaria, Kaduna State

  • Fees: ₦27,000 – 41,000

Ahmadu Bello University, also known to many as ABU, is one of the oldest universities in Nigeria. With its history spanning over more than half a century, it certainly has a very special place among Nigerian higher educational institutions. Coincidentally, it is often considered to be the cheapest university in the country. Its fees are some of the most affordable in the country.

Apart from having a long history, ABU is also impressive in its size. The area of 7,000 hectares fits twelve academic faculties, 82 departments, a postgraduate school, six specialised centres, five institutes and so much more. All of this is divided between two campuses called Samaru (which is the main one) and Kongo.

Ahmadu Bello University, as it provides its students with quality education in various fields, including Law, Agriculture, Business Administration, Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Medicine, Biology and many others. You can find the full list of programmes offered by ABU here.

In addition to that, the university has recently introduced their distance-learning programme. For now, it is only available for graduate students that want to get their Master’s degrees, but ABU promises that it will be expanded soon. You can check it out yourself here.

Federal University of Agriculture

  • Founded in: 1988
  • Where to find it: Alabata Rd., Abeokuta, Ogun State

  • Fees: ₦18,250 – 33,000

If you are interested in agriculture, live in Ogun State or nearby and do not have all that much cash to spare on education, then you should definitely consider studying at the Federal University of Agriculture in Abeokuta, also known as FUNAAB.

While this is the cheapest state university in Nigeria, FUNAAB has a very narrow specialty, which is why we just have to talk about other cheap universities. And now, it is time to move on to another university.

Bayero University Kano

  • Founded in: 1977
  • Where to find it: Gwarzo Rd., Kano, Kano State
  • Website: www.buk.edu.ng
  • Fees: ₦29,300 – 41,300

Last, but certainly not least, we have Bayero University Kano, which is often abbreviated as BUK. It offers affordable higher education of high quality provided by well-trained staff. It has many faculties, schools, institutes and centres for everyone.

BUK offers a whole range of programmes for all kinds of students. The university has faculties of Agriculture, Allied Health Sciences, Arts and Islamic Studies, Education, Clinical Sciences, Engineering, Science, Law, Phаrmacy, Earth and Environmental Studies, Social, Computer Science & Information Technology and Management Science. It is interesting to note that before Bayero University became an actual university in 1977, it used to be a college named after Ahmadu Bello and later after Abdullahi Bayero. It came a long way from being a tiny college that operated from the refurbished hotel to what it is today.
