Under fire Alexis Sanchez has said he expected something better after joining Manchester United.

The 29-year-old has flopped in his first few games for his new club since making a summer move from Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Speaking from his Chile team’s base in Sweden, the 29-year-old said: “As I am self-demanding, I expected something better.

“After my arrival at United, it was hard to change everything very quickly. I even hesitated to come here [to Sweden, with the national team].

“I had asked permission to miss these games, but then I thought better and spoke with Claudio [Bravo] and told him that we should all be united.

“The change of club was something that was very abrupt – it was the first time I’ve changed clubs in January – but many things have happened in my life that are difficult.”

The Chilean has scored just one goal in 10 games since he joined the Red Devils, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading the opposite direction.

Sanchez was dropped to the bench for United’s FA Cup win against Brighton when his poor form was brought to the fore in the weeknd’s win at Old Trafford.

United have a tough semi final match with Tottenham at Wembley but were surprisingly knocked out of the Champions League last 16 by Sevilla.

However Jose Mourinho side are in pole position to qualify for next season’s competition as they are placed second on the log.
