Information reaching the PoliticsNGR newsdesk this evening reveals that the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim Kpotum, has summoned Senate President, Bukola Saraki over the murder of 31 persons after an armed robbery attack in Kwara.

The police said 31 persons were killed in the April 5 attack which shocked the nation. Police said the suspects arrested in the attack confessed to being sponsored by Saraki, describing it as the most deadly armed robbery in the country’s history.

Saraki was previously summoned by the police in June, but the invitation was abruptly withdrawn and the top lawmaker was required to submit his response to the allegations in writing.

The lawmaker quickly responded and sent in his statement to the police.

In a statement released on Monday night, obtained by PoliticsNGR, Idris wrote to Saraki, ordering him to appear at the force headquarters to clear the ‘grey areas’ in his statement.

The police said Saraki had said in his statement that he would not comment on the purported confession of the suspects since he did not know the details of their statements.

Saraki was asked to appear at the Intelligence Response Team in Guzape neighbourhood, Abuja by 8:00 a.m. on July 24. The senate president has always maintained his stance that he has nothing to do with the robbery case and that the issue was politically-motivated.
