The Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja will , on Monday , deliver judgment on the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Prof. Kolapo Olusola, challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress flag bearer , Governor Kayode Fayemi, in the July 14, 2018 election.

Towards this end , the state Police Commissioner , Mr . Asuquo Amba , has cautioned politicians in the state against illegal assemblies or protests capable of igniting violence.

The PDP candidate , who scored 178, 223 as against Fayemi’ s 197, 459 votes, is praying the tribunal to upturn APC’ s victory based on alleged cases of vote buying , alteration of results, falsification and balloting snatching.

The Police Commissioner , who said the Command would not allow anyone to destabilise the state under the guise of protest over the outcome of the judgment , said the Command’ s ‘ Operation Make Ekiti Safe Squad’ was on ground to tame any unlawful assembly.

Amba , represented by the Police Public Relations Officer , Caleb Ikechukwu , said : “ This squad is a Joint Task Force comprising the Police and other sister agencies with about 150 men.

“ They are spread all over the state and being overseen by the Police. So , they are on ground to stop any unlawful assembly or stop any protest that could result in violence.

“ Whoever loses at the tribunal still has the option of appeal ; so , violence is not the best option, for it won ’ t be tolerated, ” he said.
