EKSU SUG elects new officials via e-voting

The Ekiti State University Students’ Union has elected new officials into its government in an online election via the University portal. The accreditation and voting commenced at exactly 9:00 am with eligible voters from their respective locations using their Matriculation Numbers as password.

The turnout, which was encouraging, was applauded by stakeholders as free, fair, credible and devoid of violence.

The Acting Dean, Students’ Affairs  who was the Chairman, Students’ Union Election Committee, Prof. Ademilua applauded the process, the first of its kind in the South West geopolitical zone as an innovative modality that has eliminated disorderliness and violent tendencies which often marred Students’ Union elections in the past. He stated further that the process allowed full compliance with the COVID-19 protocols as assembly of crowd was drastically reduced.

Speaking at the Observation unit of the ICT Centre, the Acting Director, Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Prof. Olu Olatunji described the process as peaceful and time-saving. Prof. Olatunji appreciated Prof. Edward Olanipekun and the university Management for their support  while programming the  University portal for the election.

Eight out of the thirteen positions were contested for while candidates who vied for the other five positions were unopposed.

At the end of the election, Aladedahunsi Temitope Emmanuel emerged as the president with 3,316 votes to defeat his major rival, Oyedele Alfred, who scored 2,683 votes.  Adesokan Boluwatife Tiffany  was returned as Vice President I with 4,694 votes.

Other officers elected were Abe Aduragbemi as General Secretary, Ogundijo Abraham as Financial Secretary, Ojo Daniel Oluwakayode as Public Relations Officer, Bashorun Opeoluwa Babatunde as Welfare Director, Jimoh Ridwan Olawale as Social Director and Jimoh Sunday Samuel as Sports Director.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edward Olanipekun, who earlier monitored the exercise described the virtual procedure as innovative.
