Sony has announced at Gamescom that it has sold ten million Playstation 4’s since its launch just nine months ago, putting the console well ahead in the sales battle against Microsoft’s Xbox One.

“PS4 is the number one next-generation console in the world,” said Shawn Layden, president and chief executive of SCEA, who posted a report from the conference.

When the PS4 was first launched, Sony stated that it was a console “for the players” , designed with gamers in mind. Whereas Microsoft’s Xbox One was focused on keeping the whole family entertained, with acess to apps, movies on demand, TV and Skype.

Sony however does not plan to rest on its laurels but rather is striving to improve the PS4’s network features to offer even better gaming experiences. New features will include the ability to upload game footage directly to YouTube and also ‘Share Play’ which allows the player to invite a friend into the game, even if they don’t own it.

Sony is also releasing more game titles, having already sold 30 million PS4 games this year. Titles include Grand Theft Auto V, Little Big Planet 3 and DRIVECLUB.
