Telecoms giant, MTN has, thrown its weight behind this year’s edition of the annualBattle of The Year Dance competition.
“I’d like to formally announce that MTN has thrown its weight this year’s edition of Battle of The Year Dance competition so expect this year’s edition to be better than the last. We hope to take the standard of the dance competition to the next level.” said Jolomi Kendaboh, CEO, House of Royalty and Project Coordinator, BOTY.
An annual international Break-dancing series that began in Hannover, Germany, over 20 years ago, BOTY’s Regional qualifying tournaments are held worldwide and culminate in the world finals, which is usually held in Germany and is attended annually by over 12, 000 visitors across the world. BOTY is widely regarded as the World Cup of Break-dancing.
“Battle of the Year is a youth culture event driven by the dance element of hip-hop where break-dance crews engage themselves in competitive dance or battle.
“Hip hop is a participatory art form and besides the dance contest itself which takes place on the main stage, the crowd is integrated in an interactive and participatory way into the event. This fact is realized through different side activities such as promotions, added club events, panel discussions and b-boy dancing circles in the main location for the audience,” Kendaboh added.
Battle of the Year Nigeria is the Nigerian preliminary to the annual International Battle of the Year Break-dance Championship. Since it debuted in Nigeria in 2008, it has recorded tremendous success.
