GOVERNOR Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State
will today commence a “thank-you tour”
to all the 16 local government areas in
the state and 19 local council
development areas of the state to kick-
start activities marking the fourth
anniversary of his administration.
The state government, while addressing
newsmen on the activities to mark the
fourth anniversary of the Kayode Fayemi
administration, said “no fewer than 60
projects including the legacy projects
scattered in the 35 council areas would
be commissioned by the governor
during the two week tour.”
The chairman of the Media and Publicity
Committee of the anniversary, Mr Yemi
Adaramodu, said some of the legacy
projects to be inaugurated to mark the
fourth anniversary included the new
Government House; the 12,000 seater
Ekiti Parapo Square (the State Pavilion),
the Oba Adejugbe Hospital and the
College of Technical and Commercial
Agriculture and the pilot irrigation
project sponsored by the three serving
senators in the state.”
Adaramodu, who is Governor Fayemi’s
Chief of Staff, noted that the Fayemi-led
administration had “been working
tirelessly till its last days in office in
delivering dividends of democracy to
the people in fulfilment of the mandate
given to it by the electorate.”
He stressed that the administration has
laid a solid foundation for the rapid
development of Ekiti State which he
described as one of the safest places to
live and do business and a remarkable
departure from what obtained some
years ago “when the state was notorious
for being a state of one week, one
trouble.”
He said: “all that the administration has
done in the last four years had been
envisioned. They are all contained in the
inaugural speech of the governor, Dr
Kayode Fayemi, during his inauguration
on October 16, 2010.
“Through the space of four years, the
administration has been able-through
self-denial, perseverance and prudent
management of scarce resources turned
around a seemingly hopeless situation
for better.
“Ekiti today is now an investment haven,
tourist destination, the toast of
development partners and a reference
point in good and responsive
governance because we have confronted
headlong the critical questions of
development and stagnation.
“The policies of the administration are
carefully woven for the utmost good of
the citizens. We therefore salute our
people for their cooperation.”
“It is also gratifying to note that the
sacrifice of the early years has paid off
as we all can boast of a better state
where we have peace, progress and
prosperity.
Adaramodu explained that Fayemi has
raised the bar of governance with life-
changing policies which have added
value to the people of the state by
improving their standard of living.
He urged residents of the state to troop
out in large numbers to receive the
governor in their respective council
areas to celebrate good governance and
transformation of the state in the last
four years.
Adaramodu dismissed the notion that
the government is not sensitive to the
plight of workers who have not received
their salaries by going ahead with the
anniversary celebration.
He used the opportunity to clarify that
there was no budget earmarked to mark
the fourth anniversary as being
insinuated in some quarters, noting that
the cash crunch being experienced in
the state was occasioned by late release
of allocations.
Adaramodu revealed that political office
holders and civil servants had not
received their salaries because the
arrangement in which the state
government receive facilities from its
banks to pay salaries of workers has
been stopped by a letter written to the
banks by the opposition not to make
credit facilities available to the outgoing
government.
