Manchester United returned back to winning ways at Old Trafford after Wayne Rooney’s seconds half double was enough to earn their 14th win of the season over a stubborn Sunderland side, who had former United defender Wes Brown sent off in a case of mistaken identity.
Wayne Rooney opened the scoring with a well taken penalty inthe 66th minute second half after Radamel Falcao had been brought down in the boxby John O’Shea when the Colombian was through on goal.
Substitute Marouane Fellaini, on for Falcao, then Januzaj and Rojo all went close before Rooney grabbed his second, heading home after Pantilimon had parried JanuzajâÂÂs shot. The win sends Louis van Gaal âÂÂs men back into third in the Barclay’s Premier League table with Arsenal not in action until Sunday.
The win was the Reds ninth win in the last 10 home games.
