Former Nigerian footballer, Kanu Nwankwo, has disclosed that the problem with Nigerian coaches is that they do not go to the grassroots to scout for young talents rather they go abroad.

Speaking with Hiptv, the former star who retired from international football some years back stated that the country is blessed with raw talents but nobody is paying attention to them.

“Nigeria is a blessed country in terms of talent, there are a lot of Kanus and Okochas but the main thing is right now our heads are up there, you see everybody talking about grassroots nobody wants to bring the head down. But we that we’ve been there that’s what we’ve started.

The president cup kick started last week and it’s across the federation so we can pick the very good ones we starting from local governments. It’s a big task for coaches coming to Nigeria because they’ve got work to do because there are so much raw talents. We should just look inwards and see people that can represent us at age grade levels instead of focusing on travelling to Europe.”

The former African footballer of the year also disclosed that he may consider taking up a managerial role in football someday as he cannot predict what the future holds for him.
