Ayew Inspires Marseille In 6-1 Rout

Andre Ayew put aside his African Nations Cup disappointments as he inspired French side Olympique Marseille to a 6-1 win over relegation threatened Toulouse in a Ligue 1 fixture.

Marseille ran riots in the first half as they pummelled their opponents 4-0 courtesy two early goals from Michy Batshuayi and Michy Batshuayi within six minutes before an own goal by defender Francois Moubandje and on 44 minutes Batshuayi completed his brace.

Toulouse gave the home fans something to cheer in the second half as substituteWissam Ben Yedder scored on 77 minutes but Ayew restored Marseille’s four goals lead within a minute as he netted the fifth for his side while teammate Andre-Pierre Gignac finished from a tight corner to end it 6-1. 

Speaking after the game Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa told the Ligue 1’s official website, he said: “We were very effective and that’s what made the difference because Toulouse also created chances but didn’t take them.”

“The final scoreline was prettyheavy and not necessarily indicative despite the fact that we deserved the win.”But it’s not a message to Lyon or Paris; it’s biggest importance is for us. Scoring that many goals is a huge confidence boost.”

Marseille are have now gathered 53 points after 28 games this season, just three points behind league leaders Paris Saint German but Lyon may go top if they beat Montpellier away from home in this evening.
