Under-fire Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu may strategically be cajoling Lionel Messi into his corner with a statement made to Barcelona TV on Tuesday.

The president who has called for elections later this year instead of in 2016 said Messi is happy at the Nou Camp and that the Argentine is still the best player in the world even though the 2014 Ballon d’Or was awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid.

“He’s happy and in high spirits. He is all out to win the lot this year. I’ve been with him and he’s happy.

“He is the world’s number one, even if others win the awards. He’s ambitious and wants to win.”

And even though Messi has been making some confusing statements concerning his future, Bartomeu said: “Messi will be here for years; we’re not going to sell him.”

He concluded by saying that Barcelona with Neymar, Messi and Luis Suarez, have the best attacking trident in the world.

“Neymar, Messi and Luis Suarez make up the best attack in the world. They are the envy of all the other clubs,” he concluded.
