After Nigerians realized that the news of Funke Akindele being a part of Avengers: Infinity Wars was just a cruel joke, we all decided to stan for a Nigerian actress who was actually a part of the Marvel universe: Sope Aluko in Black Panther.
Following her role as the shaman — a Wakandan spiritual leader who works alongside Zuri (Forest Whitaker) — Sope Aluko has now been cast in another highly anticipated superhero movie: Sony’s Venom.
An upcoming Spider-man spinoff based on the iconic Marvel Comics character of the same name, Venom will follow Eddie Brock (played by Tom Hardy), the host of an alien symbiote that gives him superhuman powers.
Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Gangster Squad), Venom is being billed as a standalone film that is in no way connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that 2017’s Spider-man: Homecoming was a part of.
Aluko, whose role has not yet been disclosed, will be joining Michelle Williams (Manchester by the Sea), Riz Ahmed (The Night Of), Reid Scott (Veep) and Scott Haze (Thank You for Your Service). Venom is set to hit theatres on October 5.
