When Chia Diko Detimbir made that call 12 years after he located a crashed military plane on the Ngokugh Hills, Mbakunu Shangev -ya local government Area of Benue State, he did not that was the beginning of his sojourn into the Army.
Today can be considered as one of the most memorable days for Chia Diko Detimbir, who will hold his Passing out Parade, convocation, pipping & presidential commissioning from the Nigerian Defence Academy to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army.
The cadet was 14 years old when he discovered the Nigerian Air Force Dornier 228 aircraft which crashed on the Ngokugh Hills.
On Sunday 17th September 2006, a Nigerian Air Force plane Dornier 228 conveying Senior Military personnel to Obudu for a conference crashed at Ngokugh Hills, Mbakunu Shangev-ya in Kwande LGA of Benue state, killing 13 of the officers while 5 of them were rescued courtesy of a telephone call from the crash site by Chia Diko Detimbir who led a rescue operation that saved the survivors.
Immediately the news of the crash got to the military headquarters, a search and rescue team made up of a military helicopter, and another from the police were dispatched to the scene of the crash.
