Southampton claimed a well-earned 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday after holding off a late onslaught from the Blues.
In a game which saw the best defences in the league take each other on, it was always going to be a tight affair.
However, Southampton showed good discipline and nobody could begrudge them a point from the match.
After a quiet start, Chelsea took the lead on 11 minutes through Diego Costa, the striker getting on the end of a Branislav Ivanovic cross and heading home from close range.
However, questions will be asked by Saints boss Ronald Koeman as to how the striker went unchallenged for the header.Southampton drew level just eight minuteslater from the penalty spot.
Sadio Mane ran through on goal and it was Nemanja Matic who brought him down. The Chelsea star could have no complaints as the referee awarded the penalty, Dusan Tadic firing home from the spot.
Southampton were on the front foot for long spells in the first half with Thibaut Courtois making a couple of good saves, including from Tadic just before the half-hour mark that stung the palms of the Chelsea goalkeeper.
Chelsea bounced back well and dominatedthe game in the latter stages with Fraser Forster making multiple noteworthy stops.
With just over a quarter-of-an-hour to go, the Southampton keeper pulled off a great double save with the second stop from Eden Hazard denying the Belgium international a certain goal.Forster was then in the line of duty again in stoppage time when a scramble in the box gave Chelsea three bites of the cherry.
The hosts were left with their heads in their hands as John Terry pulled the last ofthose shots inches wide of the post as Southampton clung on for a deserved point.
