The father and family members accuse soldiers of shooting their son; a claim the Army denies.

Following the tension generated by the incident, Channels Television correspondent Emmanuel Ereyi took a trip to Okaki community to speak to some eyewitnesses.

He also visited the home of the late footballer and the cultist shrine called Ghetto, where he was reportedly killed.

While some persons gave accounts that differed from the position of the Nigerian Army, a suspected cultist claimed that he was present with Joseph at Ghetto when the soldiers stormed the area.

Joseph Izu played for Shooting Stars of Ibadan in the Nigerian Professional Football League.

The defender was in his home town on holiday at the end of the 2015/2016 NPFL season before his death.
