Award-winning Nigerian singer Davido revealed that “FIA” is the song by him that touches him the most and was inspired by the deaths of two of his close friends.

Davido said this in an interview with PAUSE, a UK Magazine where he spoke about his recent successes, his career in general and his love for Africa.

When asked which of his songs touches him the most he replied:

“There’s one that I wrote about two of my friends who died, that was ‘FIA.’”

The 25-year-old pop star also reminisced about his foray into music

“I’ve always liked it, I kind of fell into music through some friends who were doing music, and then I used to follow my cousin to the studio and stuff and from there, it started.”

On struggles getting into music:” I would say I was one of the lucky ones, the first time I ever recorded and dropped that got big, that was the first song I ever recorded, started blowing up.”

Fia was released in November 2017 shortly after two friends of his died in quick succession. Tagbo Umeike passed away first due to what was later found out to be alcohol poisoning from drinking excess volumes of tequila at his birthday party; while DJ Olu(Olugbemiga Abiodun died in mysterious circumstances with a third associate of theirs, Chime Amaechi in a car at their Banana Island residence.

In the days after these incidents, Davido cancelled a number of events; leaving fans to wonder what the impact would be- especially as he was fingered in the death of Tagbo and was publicly described as having a case to answer by the police commissioner.

He denied any involvement and was cleared. In the song FIA, he took mocking shots at the police and Tagbo’s erstwhile apparent lover, Caroline Danjuma who started the accusations.
