Davido, who unveiled the new act at an interactive session with the media yesterday, disclosed that Mayokun, an Afro pop singer is the next best thing in Nigeria.
Mayokun Adewale, who is a graduate of University of Lagos, expressed his excitement over the signing and disclosed that he initially thought it was a scam when Davido sent him a message.
In an exclusive chat with NET, Mayokun disclosed that he met Davido after posting a short performance on Instagram which interested Davido.
‘’It is a dream come true and I feel so excited being signed unto the label.
”I have always hoped to get this sort of chance and Davido coming my way is something that is indescribable.’’
Davido himself just came off signing a deal recently with Sony Music Entertainment, a groundbreaking global agreement. The deal was inked at the Sony Music offices in New York and will see the American-born Nigerian recording artist release his highly anticipated sophomore album later this year.
The deal represents a step forward for Sony Music Entertainment as it grows its roots in Africa. Announcing its official presence in Lagos, Nigeria verifies Sony Music Entertainment’s decision to pursue new business via the introduction of on-the-ground operating entities in an expanded number of markets in the region. The timing of the decision is based on the convergence of a number of positive indicators in Africa’s economy and positive signs in the music industry. Davido is a shining example of this
Following the deal, the singer is also working on a collaboration with U.S rapper Young Thug, which will make it the third collaboration with a U.S music act after Trey Songz and Meek Mill. See his tweet below.
Davido’s new signing Mayokun adds up to a couple of already signed acts such as producer Shizzi, B-red, Danagog, Sina Rambo and Deekay although it is unclear as to whether Deeekay is still signed to HKN according to Davido and manager Kamal Ajiboye.
Davido tweets to confirm his new signed pop act, Mayokun.
