The Department of State Service on Wednesday restored the security details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal.
Findings showed that a surprised Tambuwal, who had travelled out of Abuja, returned on Wednesday to find his DSS operatives waiting for him.
“All his DSS details have been restored.
“The men were led by the Speaker’s Chief Security Officer; all the details returned intact.
“They are right now in his residence in Abuja,” one National Assembly source disclosed to The PUNCH on Wednesday.
When contacted, his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Imam Imam, confirmed that the Speaker’s DSS details had been restored.
“We came home and met the operatives; they resumed about 5pm.
“The Speaker returned to see them in his house and it was a surprise to all of us,” Imam stated.
However, his police security personnel have not been restored, The PUNCH learnt.
It will be recalled that the police and DSS withdrew their men from the Speaker, following his October 28, 2014 defection to the All Progressives Congress from the Peoples Democratic Party.
Tambuwal, who later emerged as the APC’s governorship candidate in Sokoto State, remained without official security protection until Wednesday’s development.
Although, he had challenged the action of the police in court, the matter is still pending.
In the absence of police protection, the Speaker was often seen moving around the country in company with his personal aides and some lawmakers.
At his residence, men of the National Sergeant-at-Arms and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps provided security.
