The Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, has asked the people of the state to be peaceful in whatever they do.
The Governor was speaking during a courtesy visit paid to him by the governor-elect, Ayo Fayose.
He said: “The duty that we owe our people is to ensure that Ekiti continues to progress, and anything that will make Ekiti progress is what I will be associated with.
“For now I think Ekiti is victorious, Ekiti has succeeded and we have shown the world, we have shown Nigerians that politics could be handled differently in a manner that is in the overall interest of our people.
“We may be one of the smallest states but it’s not by size that lessons are learnt or lessons are delivered, it’s by sincerity of purpose, it’s by sacrifice and leadership, it’s by commitment to our people and by compassion to our society. Since we are all Ekiti, I believe those are values we all share in the overall interest of our people.”
Mr. Fayose on his part sought reconciliation among all parties in the state, as he gets ready to take over from Governor Fayemi.
“Some came to my house yesterday singing all sorts of songs, I had to wake up and stop them. This is not the time to sing such songs, even when you (Fayemi) had not called me; it is the time for reconciliation and love.
“We learned from the past and it’s sure that we have a wonderful future ahead of us. This leadership calls for us to live according to rules of the game and ensure that tomorrow, we’ll be made accountable.
“Our supporters are looking up for leaders that would be able to ensure that there is peace in the state. Dr Fayemi has demonstrated it and I’m going to complement his effort, I’m going to take it up from wherever he stopped and make sure that even after office he still continues to enjoy the rights and benefits of a leader that served the people.”
