Falcons-AWC2014

Nigeria will play Cameroon in the final of the 2014 African Women Championship, after Coach Ngachu Enow’s team beat Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 after extra-time in the second semi-final played on Wednesday night.

Captain Christine Manie smashed in the winner for the Cameroonians with just two minutes to penalty shoot-out, after the game went on for 118 minutes tied at 1-1.

The Falcons have history on their side however, as they defeated the Indomitable Lionesses in the final of the 2004 edition, which was staged in South Africa. Perpetua Nkwocha banged in four goals, while Vera Okolo added the last goal.

This year’s final will be played on Saturday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek. Both teams have already qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
