With memories of the 2015 elections still fresh in our minds and several warnings about the upcoming elections, safeguarding votes should be a major priority for everyone.

While EiE Nigeria raises funds for its RSVP and Office of the citizen programmes through the ‘Light A Candle’ fundraising dinner, you can ensure the right candidates are elected by making sure your votes count in the upcoming 2019 General elections. How?

See four ways you can do this below:

  1. Register to vote

Search online to locate the approved registration centre closest to you. Register and get your voter’s card. You can also join the 100K challenge and enjoy rewards by registering at least 10 people who are eligible to vote.

2. Select credible candidates

Ensure that all candidates have competence, character & capacity. Do not let sentiments guide you. Read, follow campaigns, listen to debates, do a background check on all the candidates, their educational, leadership history, people and business management skills.

3. Vote

Election day is the big day. Go to your designated polling centre. You can use the power you have to select the candidate you want. The next four years will tell if you’ve made the right choice or not.

4. Protect your vote on election day

Stay with your votes and ensure ballot boxes are handled by INEC’s officials. After elections, pay attention to how you are being governed.

Instead of constantly complaining about the deteriorating political system in the country, why not do something to change it?

You can also add your quota to the development of EiE Nigeria’s Office of the Citizen and RSVP programmes by bidding to spend time with your favourite Nigerian celebrity athttp://eie.ng/lightacandle
