Following the indictment by the visitation panels set up by Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State , some heads of the state’ s higher institutions , allegedly involved in fraudulent activities, will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The institutions are the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti ; College of Education , Ikere Ekiti ; College of Health and Science Technology , Ijero Ekiti ; Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti , and the
Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State.
A source told SUNDAY PUNCH that the indicted heads of the institutions would also be made to return the funds they were said to have mismanaged .
“ The erring heads will be made to return government funds they mismanaged and will be handed over to the EFCC for prosecution , hence the need for the immediate constitution of functional governing councils for all the institutions to implement the panels’ decisions in line with the law, ” the source added
Meanwhile, the State Executive Council , at its two – day meeting , which ended on Friday, considered the White Paper on each of the institutions and took far – reaching decisions on them.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor , Yinka Oyebode , who addressed journalists on the outcome of the SEC meeting on Saturday, said most noticeable among infractions committed by the managements were cases of financial recklessness allegedly perpetrated by heads of the institutions .
Oyebode stated , “ The Ekiti State Executive Council , during its meetings of Wednesday , January 17 and Friday, January 19, received the White Paper on the recommendations of the visitation panels to each of the institutions in the state and gave approval for their implementations.
“ Council observed a general trend of leadership and administrative challenges in the institutions.
“ It also observed abuse of office and financial recklessness in some of the institutions.
“ It was decided that government would take immediate steps to put in place governing councils in the five institutions that will be saddled with the responsibility of implementing the recommendations contained in the White Paper .
“ The state government is committed to ensuring that all institutions in the state are repositioned for excellent service delivery. ”
But the former governor of the state, Mr . Ayodele Fayose , alleged that Fayemi was pursuing a vendetta against the former state administration.
In a statement on Saturday by Mr . Lere Olayinka , the media aide to Fayose , the ex -governor said , “ If they want me to come to the EFCC , l will do so . But Fayemi should also not forget that whenever I am going there , I will go with the report by the state’ s panel of inquiry that indicted him of looting Ekiti State treasury
“ What Fayemi is doing is a clear vendetta and most of those panels he set up to probe the state agencies operated based on hearsays, especially the one on the BSES. They ( Fayemi’ s panels) should not wait; they can go to the EFCC today and sleep there till Monday to submit their petitions against us .
“ I am here , I will be waiting . l operated the BSES in consonance with management positions. There was no money spent during my tenure that wasn ’ t audited, both internally and externally.
“ I know their plan is to keep me out of the public , to shut me up and not allow me to be on the ground at this time of elections . But I am not afraid of such plan. ”
