Governor Okorocha Declares 2 Weeks Holiday For Civil Servants

Latest reports informed that Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has declared two weeks public holiday for civil servants in the state.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, the holiday would run from December 19, 2014, to January 5, 2015.

It was disclosed that Okorocha announced the two weeks holiday during his Christmas/New Year Messages and Presentation of his score card at the Government House in Owerri on Saturday.

The governor, who recently lose his bid to become the presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, assured all Imo people and those visiting the state this festive period that all necessary machineries have been put in place to ensure adequate security in all nooks and crannies of the State.

Okorocha also implored residents of the state to be of good conduct and help to fish out criminals in their localities and wished them hitch-free Christmas and New Year celebrations.

According to him, there was every reason to celebrate.

Okorocha stated that the total transformation in the state in the past three years and seven months could not have been possible but for God’s intervention.

He thanked Imo people for being supportive of the “Rescue Mission” government.

Meanwhile, while speaking on the achievement of his administration, Okorocha stated that 322 primary and secondary schools had been built, while two campuses of Imo Polytechnic at Orlu and Ehime Mbano, were opened.

He said 1,800km of roads had been constructed in both urban and rural areas with many inland bridges in the state.

According to him, contract has been awarded for the dualisation of Owerri to Akokwa and Okigwe road.

“The road revolution will continue until all roads in Imo are tarred”, he said.

Okorocha said security had greatly improved in the state following the establishment of Imo Security Network, Imo Community Watch and Imo Civil Guard.

The new security outfits, he said, work in tandem with the Police, SSS and other security agencies in maintaining peace and order.

To end his speech, the governor commended members of the APC in Imo for electing him as the party’s flag bearer in the upcoming 2015 general elections.

This is coming days after the Federal Government announced that Thursday 25th and Friday 26th of December, 2014 has been declared as Public Holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day Celebrations.

This was contained in a statement made public on December, 18, 2014, Thursday by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Eng. Abubakar Magaji.

According to the statement, Thursday January 1st, 2015 has also been declared a public holiday to mark the New Year.

It would be recalled that Okorocha had picked the governorship ticket of the APC n Imo State while he was in Lagos for the party’s presidential primaries held in Lagos weeks ago.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had formally endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for his second term during a separate convention in Abuja.
