Iwobi Starts As Arsenal Go Down At Brighton

Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi made his 19th appearance for Arsenal on Sunday as they suffered their third straight defeat in a week in a 2-1 loss to Brighton Hove Albion in the English Premier League clash at the Amex Stadium.

It was Brighton’s first win in 36 years over the Gunners and it was Brighton’s first points against a top six side this season.

The defeat was Arsenal’s 10th in the league this season.

Iwobi was replaced in the 73rd minute by Danny Welbeck.

Brighton raced to a two-goal lead in the opening 27 minutes through Lewis Dunk and Glen Murray.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back for Arsenal just before the break.

Dunk headed in Shane Duffy’s flicked header from a Pascal Gross’ corner to give Brighton a good start in the seventh minute.

Murray doubled Brighton’s lead in the 27th minute.

Laurent Koscienly’s poor pass from defence gave Pascal Gross a chance to break through down the right flank and his deep cross into the Arsenal box was headed into the net by Murray for his sixth goal in 2018.

Arsenal got back into the game in the 43rd minute through Aubameyang.

The Gabonese forward beat Ryan in goal for Brighton with a delightful flick from close range.

The goal was his second in the EPL since he joined in January for a record fee.

In the second half, Arsene Wenger side pressed further for an equaliser and had chances from Henrik Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil.

Aubameyang missed a late chance in stoppage time to rescue a point for the Gunners but he fired a weak shot straight at Ryan.
