Kano Shuts High School Over Alleged s*xual Abuse

Kano State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the boys section of Hassan Ibrahim Gwarzo College, Kano, over recent media reports of alleged s*xual abuse in the school.

Deputy Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, announced the closure of the college while inaugurating a 14-man committee led by Professor Abubakar Mustapha to investigate the matter on Friday. The committee has two weeks to submit its report.

β€œIt [the committee] is also expected to investigate knowledge of the school management on the cases and establish its culpability or otherwise,” he added.

The deputy governor, who is in charge of the state in the absence of Governor Ganduje, who is away in India with President Muhammadu Buhari, said the committee should among other things recommend appropriate measures to be taken by the government to guard against future occurrence.

Members of the committee include legal practitioners, civil society organisations, police and Hisba.
