International premium beer brand and Champions League sponsor, Heineken has announced an exclusive viewing of the UCL Finals for fans in Lagos, at the upgraded Heineken House. The brand is hoping to host hundreds of fans on June 1st when Liverpool and Tottenham will line up against each other in the first all-English UCL final since 2008.
The match viewing which will be the biggest the brand has hosted this year is expected to hold at the all-new Heineken House, with a small welcome event starting at 6pm.
The Heineken House which has been undergoing some upgrades, has for years, been the hub for the top-notch parties that Heineken is known for. The Lagos Heineken House was first opened in 2016 as the first Heineken Champions Planet in Africa and later gave way for smaller pop-up experience centers across the nation in December of that year.
This year’s final will pitch two of the most charismatic coaches in the UEFA Champions League against each other, with both of them hoping to win their first trophy for the season despite having a really impressive run. Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool side will seem to be the side who want it most having already lost out on league glory by just 1 point, with memories of last year’s final where they lost out to Real Madrid still fresh. On the other hand, Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to complete what he has already described as a dream, winning Tottenham Hotspur, their first ever Champions League trophy.
Speaking about the viewing, Emmanuel Oriakhi, Marketing Director, Nigerian Breweries said; The Heineken brand has had an eventful year so far, and wants to round off the #Unmissable campaign for the UCL with an event fans will remember.
“We have had viewings for the UCL games and took 7 fans to go see that electric semi final match at Anfield, so what we are trying to achieve, with the final viewing at the Heineken House, is a celebration that is fit for a final of this nature where both teams really deserve the trophy”, he said.
Most fans in Nigeria are huge supporters of club sides playing in the UEFA Champions League, with many of them supporting the traditional big four of Manchester United, Liverpool FC, Arsenal FC, and Chelsea FC. Lately, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have started to gain followership due to the trophy haul of the former and the stylish play of the latter. Arsenal fans have a longstanding rivalry with Tottenham and would prefer a Liverpool win in Madrid to escape all the banter a win for Spurs could bring in the years to come.
Already this year, Heineken has hosted match viewings for the games that saw the finalists emerge from closely fought games that gave fans the biggest comeback ever in recent UCL history. Some of the fans at these viewings expressed huge expectations for the finals, especially in goals seeing that both finalists have scored a total of 42 goals since their first group game.
