Mr Mohammed Momoh, Coordinator, NYSC, Lagos State has appealed to Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode to hasten the construction of a befitting permanent orientation camp for members of the scheme in the state.
Momoh, who made the appeal in an interview with journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, said the appeal necessary because the Iyana-Ipaja camp had space constraint, coupled with other limitations inhibiting the smooth operation of a camp.

He said that it was not the statutory responsible of the NYSC to provide or construct orientation camps but that of the state government.

“More especially, we call for the provision of a permanent and befitting orientation camp, Iyana-Ipaja has space constraint.

“A camp is not expected to be in an urban setting like Iyana-Ipaja; we fight war always to prevent people and miscreants from coming into the premises.

“Aside from that, it is surrounded by the camp market and this is not ideal because it is a distraction.

“This is not an ideal camp, it is only what is available to us and we are making the best use of it.

“I know that his Excellency is aware of this, and he has promised to do his best to move us to a more spacious, befitting orientation camp in Lagos.

“A camp that will take nothing less than 7,000 corps members because Lagos has the highest capacity to absorb corps members for their primary assignment.

He thanked the governor for the support to renovate the temporary orientation camp, adding that the building was still undergoing renovations.

“The governor is living up to his responsibility and we are encouraging him to do more,” he said.
