Nigerian striker Obafemi was on target for his MLS club Seattle Sounders in their last preseason match ahead of next Sunday’s MLS regular season opener against the New England Revolution.
Martins who was a huge revelation for Sounders last season; breaking their goals record ensured his side did not end the preseason on a losing note as he rescued an equaliser for them in the hour-mark during the game played at the at Kino Sports Complex.
It was Sporting KC that struck first with just eighth minute into the game. Jimmy Medranda dribbled into the box, held off a defender and slid the ball to Connor Hallisey to put his side in the lead.
Sounders had to wait till the second half to get things tied up; when Clint Dempsey played Martins through the middle of the defense, and the 2014 Volkswagen MLS MVP runner-up turned on the jets to beat the defender to it for a clean finish into the net.
Having signed off the preseason with a goal, many will hope Martins will continue from where he stopped last season; banging in goals week after week for Sounders.
