Ruggedman - modenine

Two of Nigeria’s finest rap acts, Modenine and Ruggedman have been at loggerheads for sometime and their beef is easily traceable to the song, ‘Death Blow pt. 1’ off Modenine’s Paradigm Shift album released back in 2008.

Added to this is the manner Ruggedman replied Modenine to either change his style to achieve the needed commercial viability or leave the scene and look for another job last year. Since then, the beef has become even notable between both rappers.

In a recent exclusive chat with our source, Ruggedman cleared the air on the issue, saying he is not the target of ‘Death Blow’ Pt 1 especially since according to him, Modenine wasn’t bold enough to mention his name in any of the diss songs he did.

In his words: ‘Modenine is a rapper and I’m a rapper too, for me he has some issues with me which he has never said, because in most of his songs, he never came out straight and mentioned my name. Which was why I did a song back then called ‘To whom it may concern’, if you want to talk about me talk am make I hear, I no get two heads so make you no fear.’

Going further, Ruggedman said: ‘Speak your mind, call my name, but he never called my name, so as far as I am concerned, he wasn’t talking to me, because I’m a very direct person, if I was going to reply him like some people said, there’s no basis for it, because he didn’t call my name, he was just rapping. Rappers always brag that they are the best, even the ones that don’t have one kobo in their pocket would still brag, so I don’t believe in bragging, I’ll rather just do my work. As far as I’m concerned we are both rappers, he’s doing his thing, I’m doing my thing, like I always say, I wish everybody the best.’
