Chelsea Football Club of England were outshone by the unfacetous Paris Saint German who came all the way from France to secure a 2-2 draw against the profligacy side of London Side, who were at home.
The first half of the game was not something to right home about for both teams as they fought so hard to break the deadlock but all their efforts proved abortive.
The second half however seems a likeone of the titanic greatest football matches ever to be played in the Champions League, where the poor side(Chelsea) got a goal from Gary Cahill but former Chelsea player who played at Chelsea from 2011-2014, David Luiz, headed home a powered header for the french side, extending the match to the extra time.
Interestingly, Naijaolofofo chief sports editor, Tunde Korede(Sirtondy) focuses on two remarkable events that occured in the last night blockbuster game.
Firstly, Ibrahimovic brouhaha. Secondly.David Luiz goal’s celebration.
Did Zlatan Ibrahimovic Deserve the Red-Card?
The swedish forward was shown a straight red-card in the 31st minute of the game for a hard tackle on brazilian diminutive midfielder, Oscar, but ever since then, the internet has been flooded with criticisms from football lovers all over the world.
Some says it was ‘injustice’, while some says it was ‘well-deserved’. Well,I got in touch with a Nigerian referee, Yusuf Nta, and this is what he told me;
”I’m not a chelsea fan, but I’m a referee too, no referee see replay of his officiating until after the match, as a ref you’re called to make decision on the spot. This decisions are based on what your mind registers as match proceeds you’re aided sometimes by your being double-minded, going with one and two thoughts, but you must decide on the spot, unlike in basketball where you can see replaysand then take decision. As for me the referee is a human and for me the card is well deserved”
However, for Sirtondy, the card is well-deserved, despite the fact that Zlatan had to tap up his boot to tackle the Oscar.
Yes! They both went for 50-50 tackle but one is a bit harsh, andthe harsh one comes from Ibramovic. The man(Ibrahimovic) was gentle as he sat down to watch was the decision ofthe referee, B Skuiner, would be. It was well deserved red card.
Did David Luiz Celebrate too Widely?
The former Chelsea defender scored a81st minute goal for PSG and he went wide to celebrate with a modern etiquette of jubilation.
To be candid, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored against Man United, He didn’t celebrate, yes he didn’t. When Frank Lampard scored against Chelsea he didn’t celebrate the goal, yes he didn’t.Then, why David Luiz? Well, we are of different personality and David Luiz has apologized for his wrong decision. And this is what he said:
“My cycle finished in Chelsea, PSG gave me a great opportunity to continue my career,” Luiz told Sky Sports 5 .
“I was very happy at Chelsea. I respect everyone.
“Tonight was good for me to score. I said I wouldn’t celebrate but my emotions I couldn’t control.
“Thank you to Chelsea and sorry I celebrated because I was so emotional.”
“It is amazing for everyone, amazing for Paris club, for Paris city,” he added.
“We did a great game, we tried to win the game.”I am happy to be in the next round but we have a long way to go to win the Champions League. We have to keep our feet on the floor.”
Chelsea has been eliminated from the Champions League this season by stubborn PSG who really meant the business, even after they were reduced to 10 men, the French side still fought their way to the quarterfinals.
Chelsea were eliminated on away goals, though they played out 3-3 on aggregate.
