Less than 24 hours after Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) threatened to declare Niger Delta Republic, the Police force has warned that doing so would mean that they are liable to treasonable offence.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Donald Awunah, urged the militants to desist from acts of violence capable of disturbing the nation’s peace.
He warned insurgent groups not to dare the federal government’s constitutional power to protect the country from all forms of aggression, describing their reported plan to declare a Niger Delta republic on October 1 as provocative.
The PRO admonished militants to channel their grievance through legal means, insisting that the police and other security agencies would not condone any act of lawlessness in the region, adding that the Police and other security agencies will not tolerate any threat to the Nigerian federation.
The Niger Delta Avengers on Thursday threatened that it will declare a Niger Delta Republic on October 1, should President Muhammadu Buhari fails to restructure the country.
