Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State yesterday formally kicked off the total reconstruction of a 65-kilometre Moniya-Ijaiye-iseyin Road at an estimated cost of N9.9 billion.
Makinde flagged off the project in a ceremony held at Moniya in Akinyele Local Council of the state
The governor said that upon completion of the project, Moniya to Iseyin journey should not be more than 45 minutes drive.
He, therefore, urged the contractor in charge of the project to ensure that youths in the communities are adequately employed when executing the project.
While noting that he was committed to the project, Makinde stressed that government had paid 60 per cent upfront and the project must be completed within one year, adding that the quality of the road would be the benchmark for other road construction in the state.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Prof. Raphael Afonja, in a welcome address, said that the project would not only enhance socio-economic activities in the state but would add value to agricultural initiative as a major road network to Oke-Ogun region, which is the food basket of the state.
Meanwhile, the contractor handling the project assured the state government of quality work and speedy completion of the project.
