Crystal Palace’s early goal in the FA Cup loss to Liverpool resulted in the team becoming too negative trying to protect their lead, according to manager Alan Pardew.

Having been a goal up, Pardew felt the 2-1 loss to Liverpool was a missed opportunity for his team.

Liverpool have struggled in their recent trips to Selhurst Park, losing the Premier League fixture there earlier this season and famously surrendering a three goal lead to draw 3-3 and effectively end the Reds’ title challenge last season.

History looked ready to repeat itself after Fraizer Campbell opened the scoring in the 15th minute, but goals from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana saw Liverpool safely into the next round.

“We probably didn’t have enough moments,” Pardew toldBT Sport.

“I felt we didn’t put enough pressure on Liverpool and we really had a great chance at half-time.

“We know inside that dressing room that we should have done a bit better.
“Liverpool’s system is a problem at times – they can keep the ball, they’ve got lots of options.

“Having said that, I was disappointed in the first half. The goal kind of made us a bit negative.

“We got it so early and we kind of sat back a little bit too much,” he said.
