The National Rescue Movement has announced the suspension of its National Chairman , Senator Saidu Dansadau , and National Secretary , Chinedu Odenyi, for allegedly campaigning openly for the re -election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The party said in a statement made available to our correspondent in Lagos on Sunday that apart from campaigning for the All Progressives Congress’ candidate, Dansadau had also been holding meetings with Alhaji Atiku Ahubakar , who is the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The party said the actions of Dansadau and Odenyi were anti – party activities because the NRM had a presidential candidate, Usman Alhaji, who was contesting in the February 16 poll.

The statement reads , “ The National Rescue Movement has suspended its National Chairman , Senator Saidu Dansadau, and National Secretary , Chinedu Odenyi, for six months for their involvement in anti – party activities.

“ A meeting attended by 25 state chairmen, deputy national chairman , deputy national secretary , national youth leader and national welfare officer in Abuja which deliberated on a report by some party chairmen detailing the involvement of the two party leaders in various anti -party activities, decided to ratify the report and apply the stipulated disciplinary measure.

The meeting approved that the deputy national chairman and the deputy national secretary take over from the suspended officers. ”

“ Senator Dansadau was also indicted for openly campaigning for the APC presidential candidate , President Muhammadu Buhari , ignoring protests from NRM leaders . ”
It added , “ Senator Dansadau has been holding meetings with the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar , without any consultation or respect for the rights of the leaders and the generality of party members adding that the suspended chairman had been conducting affairs of the party as a personal business where his interest is final. ”
