On Monday, March 20, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, the Minister of Interior will officially launch the new Immigration Regulations, 2017 to ensure better security and immigration in the country.

Mr Sunday James, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) spokesman made this announcement during an interview on Saturday, March 18 in Abuja.

Mr James revealed that the Immigration Regulations, 2017 was a vital document that sought to implement the Immigration Act, 2015.

“The honourable Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau, (retired) will officially present the Immigration Regulations 2017 to the public on Monday, March, 20, 2017.

“The Immigration Regulations 2017 is a vital document that operationalises the Immigration Act 2015 and provides the legal framework for the effective implementation of the Act.”

Mr James also said the new immigration regulation was a product of robust discourse that involved legal and migratory experts, including serving and retired immigration officers.

Meanwhile, the immigration policies in the US are affecting Nigerians. Two Nigerians who were deported from the United States despite holding valid visas have recounted how they were humiliated by the immigration officers.

One of the victims of the new strict US immigration law, Femi Olaniyi said he left Lagos on a Turkish Airline on February 21, 2017 and on getting to the Los Angeles Airport, an immigration officer demanded his reason for visiting America which he explained.

Olaniyi said his phones and passports were seized and the officer captured his bio-metric data before locking him up in a cold cell.
