Bayern Munich attacker Franck Ribery believes that the Bundesliga is the best domestic championship in the world.
Last year’s Champions League final was an all-German affair, with the Bavarians beating Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, while the domestic top flight reached new heights this week as four Bundesliga teams reached the knockout stages for the first time in the history of European club football’s elite competition.
Ribery, though, feels that the performances of the Bundesliga’s finest in the Europa League also underline that the German top flight is now without equal in terms of strength in depth.
“The Bundesliga’s level has developed incredibly in the past few years,” Ribery was quoted as saying by Kicker.
“The Bundesliga is undoubtedly one of the best leagues in the world and is perhaps even the very best.
“Just look at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Europa League win over Bordeaux the other day. They are the number 16 in the Bundesliga.
“This only shows that the Bundesliga teams are very strong compared to other leagues. The Bundesliga are the dominant league in Europe at the moment.”
The Bundesliga currently sits third in the Uefa Ranking, behind Spain’s La Liga and the English Premier League.
