Having been on the underground music scene, working with several other well established artists on the UK acts and producers, the UK-based Nigerian singer Richie Kord releases his debut single titled #Maro.
Born 15/02/1989 in Ibadan Nigeria, the Richie Kord’s musical journey began in at a military boarding school at age 9. He was discovered by the lead singer of a group called Virtues which was part of the school choir at the time.
He then went on to join other musical groups and several youth choirs including small town group KTR in Niger State, Nigeria.
After moving to the UK in 2008 to join his mother, he attended the Newham College, where he met a friend who was into musical rap. Together they formed a group called R&D, worked on a number of projects – mainly focusing on R&B, Hip Hop and Soul and released a single titled ‘Love Like Fire’ which had a very good response.
In 2009, Richie Kord horned in on the Afrobeats genre being part of Vibe Squad at one point.
Over the years, he has worked with a lot renowned acts and producers on the UK music scene.
Some of his influences include, Fela, Micheal Jackson, Lagbaja, Tuface, Usher, Style Plus, Kimbruel and P-square.
Due to his versatile experience and a variety of musical influences, Richie Kord’s genre of music is a rare fusion of afro and contemporary/alternative R&B sounds.
His debut single titled Maro (which literally means pay no attention to other people’s negativity in local Nigerian parlance) is produced by talented UK-based producer O.Y.
