The 54th independence anniversary turned sour for the family of renowned Nigerian actress, dancer and choreographer Kemi Omotoyibo as she gave up the ghost in an unnamed private hospital during childbirth precisely 20 days after her wedding.

Omotoyibo who was known for dancing for several popular artistes like Shina Peters, Kwam 1 and Pasuma joined her great ancestors as her husband, Godwin Eloanyi helplessly watched her go down the great beyond.

A source, who is close friend to the actress, disclosed that the actress had gone through labour for many days in the private hospital and when it seemed obvious that the child couldn’t come through the natural way, the doctors filed her for a Caesarean Section(CS) which was billed at N450,000.

Meanwhile the doctors demanded an initial deposit of N300,000 before they could commence the surgery. Unfortunately it turned out sour as the husband couldn’t afford the money but pleaded with the hospital to go ahead with an assurance that he would pay them the next day.

However, the plea and assurance from Kemi’s husband fell on deaf ears as the doctors abandoned her until she finally breathed her last at the late hours of same day

“Kemi’s husband said he would pay the money the next day but the doctor refused and stated categorically that he would not move an inch else he pays N300,000. It was at that point Kemi decided to forward messages to people she knows so she could get help. She got responses that money would be made available to her the next day,” her friend said. “On hearing that the husband went to beg the doctors again, still they refused. No bank was opened and nothing could be done until Thursday October 02, 2014 but unfortunately she gave up the ghost that night. My point is, the doctors knew she had to go through emergency C&S. they could have saved her life and get the money later. Nigeria is a very bad country I must confess.”
