The Lega Serie A announced a provisional date to resume the 2019-20 fixture list from June 13, with contact training to begin on Monday, after a medical protocol was agreed.
Following the requested changes to the medical protocol – which continue to cause controversy among clubs and above all chief medics – a go-ahead has been given to resume group training from Monday May 18.
A statement was then released by the Lega Serie A, confirming “the date of June 13 for the restart of the season.”
However, it’s worth noting that the protocol means if one player or member of staff tests positive for COVID-19 after the group training begins on Monday, the entire squad will have to go into quarantine for 15 days.
Unlike the Bundesliga model, we won’t see just the player or staff member isolated and the others repeatedly tested.
There is also the sticking point of responsibility, as club medics do not want to be considered solely liable if a player contracts coronavirus.
