A US high school has torn a strip off a student who decided the traditional cap and gown was just too much clothing at his graduation ceremony.
Quinton Murphy stunned the audience at the Jack Britt High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina, when he decided to strip down to just a pair of leopard print briefs
The student, a player for the school’s gridiron football team, strolled onto the presentation stage and tore off his robe to celebrate the completion of his school career – to a mixture of laughter and gasps from the students, parents and staff in attendance.
But staff were not amused to say the least and Mr Murphy was refused his diploma certificate and banned from attending future events at the school.
Dr Frank Till, the school’s principal, said later: “This young man chose not to show respect for his colleagues”
“It used to be that the audience would be disruptive at graduation. We’ve worked hard to get the audiences to respect our students.
“Graduation went on as if the incident hadn’t occurred I was very proud of the students and very proud of the school.”
Mr Murphy was refused his diploma certificate but is still a high school graduate – an important requirement for employment and further education in the US.
