Swansea City pulled a major upset in the opening day of the new Premier League season by beating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

United fans were confident going into the game as they believe the arrival of Louis Van Gaal as Coach will buoy well for them.

However, that was not the case as the Swans came determined to ruin the party for the Dutch gaffer.

It was the visitors that had the first real chance in the EPL opener as Gylfi Sigurdsson’s curling effort off a free kick awarded 25-yards away was held by David de Gea.

Swansea continued to test the hosts, and took the lead with just under half an hour gone when the ball fell to Ki Sung-Yueng on the edge of the box, allowing the midfielder to drill it into the bottom corner. Swansea get the advantage through the first half.

The shock in face of United fans soon disappeared when Wayne Rooney level back for United with an overhead kick in the 53rd minute.

United however found themselves chasing the game again as Swansea regained the lead when Sigurdsson fired in from close range after Wayne Routledge scuffed an effort.

Frantic efforts by Manchester United to avert an opening day loss proved abortive as Swansea held on for the win and now sit at the top of the EPL log.
