Swansea director John van Zweden says he is not looking forward to seeing Wilfried Bony being wasted on the Manchester City bench, after feeling he didn’t get enough money for the striker.

Bony has been at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea with the Ivory Coast national team, but won’t be heading back to Wales.

Manchester City snapped up the striker for £30 million earlier in January, and van Zweden fears that he will have to start getting used to sitting on the bench at the Etihad Stadium.

“We will miss the goals from Wilfried Bony a lot,” said the Dutchman. “The most frustrating thing is that he will sit on the Manchester City bench.

“For Sergio Aguero remains their main striker. I’d personally love Wilfried to be at the heart of a top club like City.”

Van Zweden is not just upset about Bony’s potential role as a substitute, as he also thinks that he was short-changed on the deal for the Ivorian.

“If Manchester United were able to get as much as they did for Luke Shaw, then the money we have been paid for Bony, the Premier League’s top scorer in 2014, is still on the very low side,” he said.

The Swans were recently dumped out of the FA Cup by Blackburn Rovers, losing 3-1 at Ewood Park on Saturday, and face a Premier League trip to Southampton on Sunday.
