Nigeria’s Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka is currently under fire as Nigerians pounced on him to tear his green card the way former President Olusegun Obasanjo tore his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) card few years ago.
This is coming shortly after Donald Trump emerged President of the United States of America.
Naijaloaded recalled that, Wole Soyinka had vowed to destroy his green card if Donald Trump becomes US President.
He was as saying, while giving a speech to students of Oxford University, England that: “If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say [that] all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that.
“The moment they announce his (Donald Trump) victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up. What is happening in Europe shouldn’t surprise any of us … It has happened before. We were here when Enoch Powell was leading his thugs out to drive blacks from here”.
But Nigerian on Twitter who wondered why the playwright was yet to tear his green card, warned Wole Soyinka against saying that he was misquoted by the media.
