International Guardian claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari has sent apologies to former president Chief Olusegun Obasanjo over his possible probe.

A source close to Buhari’s government has said that the president was only trying to diffuse gossips in the media about Obasanjo being a target of his probe.

Former president reportedly was already compiling a report which included documents linking President Buhari and key assistants and colleagues in his government to major fraud connected to different affairs of the administration, when he received President Buhari’s “esprit de corps” plea for a general understanding and restraint.

Then the incumbent leader of the nation quickly announced a negation of his threats, declaring publicly that he would not spread his corruption investigation beyond the government of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan.

Buhari exactly indicated through his Femi Adesina, his media aide, that he would not waste time in probing the administrations of ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalam Abubakar, Sani Abacha, and Ibrahim Babangida.

Meanwhile the report caused doubts among critics on the president’s credibility in fighting corruption as he firstly swaggered.

Buhari’s request for cooperation with the USA, however, provoked a supposed reaction by President Obasanjo believed as one of Nigeria’s most corrupt past leader by most western countries.

America has specified it would help Nigeria’s new leader to recover billions of dollars in stolen assets – a move that might discover previous fraudulent actions in the Obasanjo’s tenure.

Meanwhile, the United States government may not please to selective probe of executive fraudsters which may cause the worsening of Nigeria-USA relationships.

It should be also noted that as the Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar was caught up by a US Grand Jury which reports detailed his fraudulent participation with Congressman, William Jefferson to secure a business deal in Nigeria.

Chief Obasanjo’s regime has been believed to be the most fraudulent in Nigeria’s history.

“For Buhari to claim that he would not waste time digging into the far past, simply signals a red flag about his involvement in the whole thing,” disclosed a source close to Washington.

It should be noted that Chief Obasanjo has recently recommended a way forward for Buhari’s administration in governing a new Nigeria.

He also has tasked president-elect to prioritise all sectors as he assumes office May 29, 2015.
