Madrid Derby Headlines Champions League Last-8 Draw Atletico Madrid will look to avenge their defeat to city rivals Real Madrid in last season’s Lisbon final of the Uefa Champions League when they host the reigning champions in the quarter-finals on 14 or 15 April.
The draw for the quarter-finals and the semi-finals of Europe’s elite eight teams was conducted by Uefa General Secretary, Gianni Infantino, in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday.
Former Germany striker and Berlin final ambassador, Karl-Heinz Riedle, assisted in plucking the sides out of the hats.
Real defeated Atletico 4-1 after extra-time to claim their tenth European Cup last May.
Both capital sides also clashed in the 1958/59 semi-finals, with the Los Merengues triumphing 2-1 in a replay after a 2-2 draw.
The Los Roji Blancos will fancy their chances against their rivals this term, as they are yet to lose in six of their match-ups in all competitions- Spanish Super Cup, Liga and Copa del Rey- since last year’s final.
French champions Paris St-Germain are pitted against La Liga leaders Barcelona ina repeat of their group stage pairing earlier this season.Paris won 3-2 at the Parc des Princes but lost 3-1 at the Camp Nou.
They also met inthe 2012/13 quarter-finals, Barcelona prevailing on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw.All 2015 quarter-finalists have 23 titles between them. The side drawn first will play the first leg at home, with the ties scheduled for 14/15 and 21/22 April.
